North Indian States under the blanket of dust

Once again, the skies of North Indian States like Delhi , Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan are completely covered with thick layer of smoke , dust and harmful chemicals. A public advisiory has been issued by the deparment to avoid the health problems. People have been advised to stay at home and avoid outdoor activities.

It seems that the nature is giving us  alarm that its a time change the way we are spoiling our nature. All this is a result of deforestation and an over use of vehicles though dust storms in the neighbouring state Rajasthan may be one of the reasons.

This may be a situation for a day or two but what about in the near future. This is happening second time when the air quality has been fallen so badly. I remember the last time when the sky of these states were covered with smog ! Even NASA noticed the same through its Report.

Even WHO report , near about more than 90% people of world are breathing in the air which is not good for their health and exceeds the limit of air quality index according to WHO.

The Air Quality Index has crossed all its limits as it has reached to maximum limit of 500 in Delhi while around 446 in Ludhiana ,a state of Punjab. You can understand this AQI values by the given table:

The associated health problems as per this AQI range (401-500)  are-

It may cause many respiratory problems and serious health impacts on heart and lungs. A little breathing discomport to sensitive people like children , older adults and people with heart diseases. 

Hence one should avoid doing long exposure to this kind of environment and if neccessary, wear mask to protect themselves.

Talking about Ludhiana, According to Punjab Agricultural University, ThE AQI is 446 which includes PM10 as a main pollutant.This can be dust, smoke , mist or any inhalable or respirable particles which can be drawn deep into the lungs and cause breathing problems and irritation in eyes,nose and throat.

The condition is worse in the Capital, where government had to suspend all the construction work giong in the state.See AQI of different areas of Delhi.

This is really unfortunate that we are still not adopting the habits that leads to the protection of our enviroment. In the coming days we will be more prone such natural disasters and that time situation will be out of control.

( Since yesterday,the sky here is full of dust and the weather is too bad that I can’t even tell my kids to play outside nor I can go for a walk and this is going to persist for two more days )

Make ‘Eating at home’ not a trend but a healthy habit !

India has always been a famous for different cuisines in the world so is  their love for the food. This may be one of the reasons that every now and then people are looking for new places to eat and hang out with friends and family. But when it comes to health issues, they prefer to eat at home.

EATING AT HOME IS HEALTHY

The main reason is that the food prepared at home is fresh , healthy and cooked under your observation. There are minimum chances of adulteration and is free from harmful chemicals .( Ajinomoto i.e. Monosodium glutamate a chemical used to enhance the food taste which is cancerous and sometimes added in outside food).

According to the  Godrej Food Trends Report 2018  prepared by renowned Chefs, health professionals, nutritionists of the country ,Eating at Home” is one  of the latest food trends also as 100 % people prefer to eat at home more often  when it comes to health issues and about 75 % people believe that having food at home is safe and hygienic too.

It is really important what we are eating as our body reacts in a way we eat and what we eat. These lines from our ancient scriptures also show that the food is not only  for energizing  our body but also important for my mind ,soul and thoughts.

दीपो भक्षयते ध्वान्तं कज्जलं च प्रसूयते |
यदन्नं भक्षयेन्नित्यं जायते तादृशी प्रजा ||

dIpo bhakShayate dhvAntam kajjalam cha prasUyate |
yadannam bhakShayennityam jAyate tAdRishI prajA ||

Lamp eats darkness and produces [black] soot!
What food (quality) [one] eats daily, so will [one] produce.

This reminds me the saying of my elders that the feelings of person who is preparing the food also matter. It is told me why people in religious places enjoy the food as everyone while preparing food keep on chanting mantras or remember the god and the goodness passes in the food , so it becomes more tastier.

HOW I MAKE MYSELF AND MY FAMILY EAT AT HOME 

I too prefer eating at home and I must thank the food bloggers and  Google that I can cook different cuisines at home. Even I love giving twist to them so that no one could get a chance to leave the dinning table without appreciating my cullinary skills. Learning to cook new dishes at home has been possible in this Internet Era being wifi as a ( hidden) best friend for your kitchen. There are 50 % people in India who learning and trying new cuisines and dishes at home ( As the Godrej Food Trends Report says ) and I am happy to be a part of it.

DEVELOPING THE CULLINARY SKILLS IN CHILDREN TOO BY EATING AT HOME

When I am experimenting with cooking skills , how can my  kiddos be left behind . They too are always ready to try to cook and serve the food with love. I must appreciate their way of presentation. This culinary education is must for children at home or in schools for their healthy future as 25 % people of India are agree with it , as the report says.

These skill are neccessary too as they have to live independently at some point of life. What can be better than giving a real life demo at home in the early stages of life. It gives them an immense pleasure by doing things independently.

HOW TO MAKE ‘EATING AT HOME ‘POSSIBLE WHEN YOU HAVE NO TIME TO COOK

Due to working in Multinational companies and busy family schedules , we can’t cook food regularly. In such cases people prefer to have a helping hand i. e. a person who cooks food for them. They prefer to train them for different dishes , according to Godrej Food Trends Report 2018 .  It is not very difficult . You have to once  teach them as they pick up very quickly. I am vegetarian but these dishes are cooked by my maid servant under my guidance . I opened the recipe and guided her and she did a wonderful job !

Sometimes a simple food , having two dishes on a table with a family gives you an immense pleasure which even a five star hotel can’t give. The one who returns back home after a week long tour and eat food at home can understand this feeling  better.

In the nut shell , we can say that eating at home is best for happy and healthy life.

Social Media Detoxification – how to do it in three easy steps

Have you ever thought how your day would be without  Social Media ? What if your Smartphone does not work  or wi – fi get lost for a day?

Probably, it would be difficult for you to even  imagine such a situation. Sometimes we get so much involved in in it that we forget that this is all virtual and this may affect our real life. ( as discussed in my previous post.) .

Last month I felt as if I am getting obessed with Social Media so I decided to take a break for a day . No Twitter , no Facebook, no whats app and so on. After a 12 hours of SMD , I felt refreshed and rejuvenated. It was a feeling of achieving something good in real life.

Sometimes we need to impose a kind of self discipline so that our work efficiency increase and we could think in a better way.  Same was the case with Jason Zook

Most people won’t admit how much social media means, or has meant, to them. For me, social media has been my life since 2008. I’ve built multiple businesses using Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and other platforms to garner attention, build community and generate revenue.

After six years of heavy social media use (read: nearly every waking hour of every single day) it was time for a break. I was fed up with losing control of my feeds. I was upset with my diminishing social reach due to networks bursting at the seams with users. I also started to become cynical and jealous of people. So for 30 days, I quit social media cold turkey and implemented a self-imposed detox.

Taking a social media detox for a month really opened my eyes to the feelings and motivations I have using Twitter, Facebook, etc.

 

According to The New York post , even Kim Kardashian has supported the digital detox.

“I took a couple months off and I just wasn’t on social media. And honestly, I think it’s so beneficial for everyone in life, no matter what you do, who you are, how old you are, you need a digital detox,”

It is not that difficult as you think.  You have just make your mind . It is like a controlling over sugar intake as you see some signs of diabetes or gaining weight ! Social Media Detox process has great benefits. It will definitely help you to grow your  social , physical and mental capabilities.

Take it as a challenge and do it  !

Ways to do Social Media Detoxification

STEP 1

Prepare yourself well before you start Don’t take it as a punishment. Think positive and send positive stmulus to your brain. Plan your your well in advance to keep yourself busy.

Set your goals – As a beginner you need to ste goals for yourself.  These should be the realistic ones. ( I will limit my data usage for next week is not realistic as limit to what extend is not mentioned here )

Choose your time limit – You can start with few hours to few days and even few months. It depends on what exactly you want to achieve.

Choose your day – I prefer Sunday as I feel I need to spend that with my family.  There is no hard and fast rule in this. You can choose any other day too if you have some assignment that need online guidance.

Inform your family and friends – This is important to inform that you are on Social Media fasting and can’t connect with them on different social platforms for few days or hours. ( As per your decision )

STEP 2

Switch off the WiFi or internet connections–  There is no need switch off the mobile completely. I switch off the wifi and internet data on my phone. I personally prefer doing this. This way I can control my urge to see various notifications on my phone.

Log out from the apps – The other way is to log out from various apps. This way you will net any notification until you log in again.

Delete few gaming apps – I know it is little difficult to do but believe me you can find something better when you will search again to download it. A new updated version , more difficult!

Activities to keep yourself busy during Social Media Detoxification

Nature Walk –  Go for a walk and enjoy the nature. Spend some time with nature and get inspired.

Read something new –Buy some magazines or a book if your favourite author. ( Preferably Paperback). Carry it with you and read it whenever you get a time

Cook for yourself – Think of dish which you used to enjoy a lot. Dosome experiment with it. It comes out not necessarily. What important is that you tried something new.

Plan a holiday-    Plan a vacation or a picnic with your friends and family.  Do click some pics , not to upload but cherish the memories later. Get the print outs later.

Become a writer-   Write your emotions , feelings and experience in your diary. Read whenever you are alone. Writing controls your anxiety too.

Give time to yourself. You can go for a spa or get a new hair colour or new style. Go for shopping. You can enjoy Window shopping to make your pocket happy. Drink coffee !

Start some DIY project – You can start some DIY project like painting a wall with some texture or making a new table for your garden or even a painting for your room.

Plan with crayons and pencils-  You may not be a good artist but can try some colouring activities. Colouring is a great stress buster even for elders too. You can try sketching.

Get connected with some old friends. Give them a call to surprise them. Plan a surprise for someone you love. Write a letter ! Have some fun in life ! Rejuvinate your life and soul !

I am sure following these steps will not let you have the craving for social media.

Glimpses of WordPress 15th Anniversary’s Celebration -Delhi Meetup

WordPress has been a great revolution in the world of blogging and has been growing year after year. It has been a place where you can write , share , sell , promote and the list goes on. The best part of this community is that everyone here is to support each other.

Few weeks back I got to know about WordPress Meet in Delhi and decided to attend to get some more knowledge about blogging and grow our WordPress community. It was basically an interactive session and celebration of WordPress 15th anniversary .

It was indeed a helpful and worth for bloggers like me. There were various topics discussed by some of the renowed personalities who has always been a great support for the wordpress community .

  • The session started with a presentation by WordPress User,Dr Anil Singhal who is using WordPress from the last 12 years.He shared the easy steps to make a new website in 7 days without any third party.
  • A talk on “Earning opportunities in Indic Languages Blogging” was given  by Jay Paudyal, Founder, StartupCafe Academy whi is an inspiring, motivating and lively person. He explained the opportunities in blogging and content creating in various Indian languages. He is also working upon getting the URL for  website in Hindi and other Indian languages.
  • Thereafter was a  talk  on “Lessons learnt running a WordPress Business” by Daman Jeet Singh – Founder, XLplugins.
  • Discussion on Implications of GDPR – Arun Bansal, Founder, ServerGuy & Ankur Raheja, Cyber Law Expert was an important topic for bloggers and other who are using third party apps and plugins. He explained the meaning ; importance of GDPR and how be a GDPR complaint.

 

  • 15 year Celebration of WordPress

After an open house, we had a cake cutting celebration which was enjoyed by all of us.
The attendees also got a coffee mugs as a token of love. It was a fun filled , informative and motivating meet for bloggers and WordPress developers.

A Special thanks to Sibtain Zaheer for being a motivator and making this event successful one.
