Career security and research work need to incorporated in the present education

Education can bring the desired change in the future. If you want to shape the future shape the education system accordingly. Teachers , parents and management are the three main poles holding the students from each side. They will go whenever these poles will lead to. Hence we have to take the responsibility very wisely.

Education quotes, educational REFORMS in India

Last year an initiative has been taken to analyse the present Education System through interviews and survey( Click here to participate ) Even the educators from Finland educators have joined this initiative. Today’s blog will bring the thoughts of an enthusiastic teacher and blogger Sakshi on her views on Present education system.

Journeysays – Hi Sakshi , tell us something about yourself as a person and a blogger ?

Ans. As a person I’m an ambivert , sarcastic , definitely fun-loving , enthusiast , optimistic and I must say this list won’t end so in short , I’m a perfect blogger personality .

Journeysays- Are you happy with the present Education System ?Why or why not ?

Ans. Happy won’t be the exact word . Mixed thoughts define it perfectly . There are both advantages and disadvantages to this education system . Some of the disadvantages are

  • focus is not on the all round development of both physical and mental body of a child
  • Focus is given to the certification process like report card and marks that finally , actually don’t showcase the true abilities of the child .
  • The system of judging is same for everyone . But every child is not having the same in abilities . Here there is a broad difference between what should be done and what we shouldn’t do .
  • The course of students is more theoretical and is based on knowledge that would actually not help them in future . Basically the years you spent to get that metric pass or else just in the end remains a certificate without actual knowledge .
  • And lack of practical knowledge creates a region of unawareness where when they face competition on the international level , there confidence is compromised .
  • In this system of education , salaries of teachers are so low that even being considered the best , students ranks it last choice in their career option list.
  • The school system is lot becoming like a spoon feeding ground . Just a recent change in cbse stated that in lower classes , a student can be promoted to next class even if they have failed in previous section .
  • The focus of higher education system in more on obtaining the degree than on research .

Journeysays- Why do parents in India still after the professions like doctors or engineers

Ans . Because there is no career security in other professions . These two job profiles fulfill all the requirements for a must option like , good salary package , respect , confirm job placement , demand for the these officials . After all parents wish for a secured profession . And these two are secured in many ways .

Journeysays- Your recommendation at various levels of education ?

1 . Practical and theoretical knowledge should be given equal importance .

2. Research work should be encouraged .

3. Career security should be offered and more and more skill based subjects must be introduced .

4 . By doing a single board in India , like Icse board will be better .

5. Nowadays there is too much pressure on students . Education is no pain , curriculum should be set in way that it’s fun and interesting . Not something to suffer from . But something to learn and experience .

Journeysays- Define Sakshi – as a teacher , as a student , as a parent (keeping education as a center point )?

Ans. As a teacher , I’m not-at-all a strict teacher . I like fun , interactive classes . New ideas and new ways of learning are always welcomed .

As a student , I’m a first bencher who curiously pens down every piece of information a good teacher ( I love lectures of ) tries to teach . Even in class I like regular study routines . Love to research too about topics discussed in class .

As a parent , which I’m not right now but I will try to make my kid to give value to education . I will be supportive to choose whatever there creative intuition may take them to . I’m a person who lives life based on interest . So I will try to impart that choose the subject or the field your passion is in .

Journeysays-These days children prefer to go abroad for higher education after 12th . What could be the reason for it ? Where are we lacking in terms of education ?

Ans. Because there is scope for a great future . Abroad there are additional benefits , high salaries , encouraging environment for honest working , job security , career security hence financial security , even if you are not in a specific job , doing research work .

Journeysays- What inspired you to get associated with this project ?

Ans . Education is something more than important to improve right now . And in anyway , be it discussions ,by teaching myself and keeping my opinions strongly , I’m ready for it always . I’m a more than happy to participate again , yes second time in such a wonderful initiative . Even last year I participated my answers are much more better this time because this year I experienced teaching kids myself .

Journeysays-How do you feel about this project and about my blog ?

Ans . Thanks a lot and million times to include me in this great initiative . Your blog is an inspiration . I would always love to be a part of your projects and initiatives . This is the blog that actually makes me to realize that working on social issues and spreading knowledge about it is so important . I am thankful to Ms Arora for always printing these innovation ideas discussing  specifically about education .

I must thank you for putting up your perspective about present Education System which needs to be modified according to the requirements of the students and future. She has always been very supportive and active in all aspects.

Finnish Education System – A new approach in education

Why trust a Finn?

It is not rare for the Finnish education system to be praised at the news. Whether it is the high scores in PISA results, excellent teachers or the equality of education.
The question remains: why should other countries follow the lead and adapt to the Finnish system? Well, the short answer is that they shouldnโ€™t. On the other hand, adapting some of the pedagogy, approaches and methods, and fusing them into the local system โ€“ now that makes
sense.

Teacher Identity

Yes, there is a curriculum to follow as a teacher โ€“ however the teachers in Finland have a lot of independency followed by a whole lot of responsibility. In general, performance is not observed nor graded โ€“ instead there are annual feedback session between the teacher and the student as well as the parents. The parents are greatly involved in the progress and development of the child. This is how the learning is seen as an entirety, a lifelong commitment to learn and develop. The teacherโ€™s asses each student, evaluate their individual learning ability and see them as unique cases โ€“ instead of a blank canvas where the curriculum is forced upon to.

Play it out!

One of the major differences between the Finnish Early Childhood Education & Care ideology and the rest of the world, is the approach to learning methods. By no means this is the only difference within the education methods, but surely it is an interesting one.

Learning through play has been proven to be effective and the fundaments of it, is that it is tailored to the age and development of a child.
โ€Much of the early childhood education and care in Finland centers around play, free discovery, collaboration, interaction, own initiative, concentration, and learning to take responsibility for oneโ€™s own actions. ECEC in Finland emphasizes the so-called soft skills of balanced growth and taking others into account, over quantifiable metrics.โ€

Curriculum Fusion

Finnish expertise is available overseas these days โ€“ however one must identify that changes in such profound matters do not happen overnight. Huippu Education Ltd. has entered the Middle East markets and has introduced an ideology of Curriculum Fusion โ€“ a way to bring elements of the renown Finnish pedagogy to a local context. For a school to seek this opportunity, they need to be open minded, ready to hand over some responsibility to the teachers from the management and to have the willingness to involve the parents as well as to really see the children as individuals and address that in daily practices.

5Es of Education

5E model of education , educational REFORMS, journey of life continues

Education does not mean giving knowledge and stating facts and figures, it includes proper sequence of learning experiences. It includes

ENGAGEMENT of students in teaching learning process . Students should not be the passive listeners.

EXPLORATION of opportunities, adventures and thought process to construct the new knowledge.

EXPLANATION in the form of discussion with participation from both sides.

ELABORATION of the concept , it’s utility in daily life .

EVALUATION of learning experience and child’s understanding.

Fantasy of projects and experiment can ignite the intelligent minds – students opinion

Education is a powerful tool to bring desired positive changes in the society . That is the only possible way if we are providing the education in a way that it is making us fininancially independent. These were the thoughts in the initial discussion of this Project and the survey conducted under this project.ย

Coming in the series, here is an interaction with Shivam Mishra putting up his suggestion that can refine our education system.

1: Tell us something about yourself )
e.g where are you from ? What you do ? What are your dreams and aspirations in the life ?

Ans: I am Shivam Mishra. I come from Ayodhya, UttarPradesh. Currently, I’m working as an engineer. I don’t have dreams or destinations, I believe in enjoying my journey equally.

2 What inspired you to get associated with this Project ?

Ans: Education is the area where a lot of work needs to be done. When I read regarding this project I thought I ought to put out my views on this issue.

3. Why do you feel that there is a need of change in the Education system of India ?

Ans: There are various following reasons why I think there is a sudden need of change in our education system.

1. There is a vast difference between theory and practical.

2. We don’t use most of things we study.

3. In these times when world is changing rapidly, we got to catch up with rest of the world and new emerging technologies.

4.What practical difficulties as a student you are facing or have faced in present education system ?
Ans:- I didn’t have good teachers. I spent 9 precious years of my life without a good teacher. When I met them, they truly changed me forever. Besides this I am not a good learner and a lazy one so when I started trying to learn, semester was over. 4-5 months were not enough time for slow learners.

5 . What changes you want to see in Education System in the coming years ? ( It would be nice if you give practical ways to improve our system at any particular level e.g school level , college level etc)
Ans:- 1. Reduction of syllabus burden:- There are many redundant things we study for example in mechanical engineering, Students study Manufacturing, Thermodynamics, Machine design etc. but at the end of the day, he ends up making career in only one of these streams. So classification of these streams would not only reduce the burden but student can also use that time working in industries and learning relevant things.

2. Selection of teachers:- A teacher can play vital role in making a child’s career. Teachers should be people who’re passionate about teaching. If somebody is teaching only to survive and to earn his daily lives, he is wasting both his and his student’s time.

Another thing is students between the age of 5-10 years ought to be taught compassionately and without expecting too much. People learn at different rates. Not knowing something, having difficulty in learning something, making mistakes, none of these are punishable.

3. Guidance:- Guidance in making career is also equally very important. Most of the students copy others without knowing their own interest and start fumbling. People lose their interest in their jobs as it’s completely different from what they thought once. Time is precious and life is too short, one can’t spend all it experimenting. That’s why they need guidance. Everybody is an individual entity so they wouldn’t be fit in same frame as a fish can’t climb on a tree. Students should also be encouraged to pursue entrepreneurship.

4. Inclusion of Technology: Inclusion of technology can make learning way easier. For example  using Apps such as BYJU’s learning App, difficult structures can be understood easily by using Model & Prototypes etc.

5. Personality Development:- Personality development, Human Interaction, Negotiations, Your appearance etc are very important once you enter into working class.

6. Projects:- Projects and experiments help in learning and one can correlate with theory. Fantasy of projects and experiments can ignite intelligent minds and spark the talent. Though it should be assigned naturally not forcibly.

6. Given a chance what is the first thing you will change and why ?

Ans:- There are many important things that need to be done and deciding one thing is really difficult. But if somehow I could push this perception that one should study to know the world better and things he is interested in not to score marks in exams. That would be a fair thing to do. For example a student goes through a lot anxiety during exams and after that he goes on vacation and forgets most of the thing he studied. When I was in 10th standard, I used to wake up at 1a.m. to study not because I wanted to score marks but I was afraid of failing. I did well.

When the time before exams is same as the time after exams, It should be spent with equal importance.

Thank You!

Journey Says : Thank you Shivam Mishra for enlightening us on this topic and being a part of this project. Your voice can motivate others to come forward and share their experiences too. Education should teach us how to live life and earn livelihood and prepare us for real life. Education should come out from books to life.

RAISE YOUR VOICE TO BRING THE POSITIVE CHANGE

Education should make us financially independent and prepare us for life not for marks !

Hello to all lovely readers of my blog ! Welcome to the first interaction conducted under the Project – Educational Reforms in India, initiated with the help of blogchatter – A biggest platform for all the Indian bloggers .

I asked few people to express their views regarding the educational reforms as a parent , teacher or as a student  on Twitter. Here is what they have suggested.

My first interaction was with Dr Amrita, who is a parent to a six year old girl and a teacher in a Medical College. I asked few question which were popping in my mind since the thought of this project came into my mind.

Here is my interaction with her.

JourneysaysWhat changes you want to see in present educational system ?

Dr Amrita : I want quality, affordable education with strong practical classes. Practicals like summer internships at various levels to have an idea about how different industries work. The education system is okay but the expectation needs to be balanced. While parents know the practical nature of life ,children and youngsters have no clue . Employability of education makes it useful. Until this gap in knowledge is understood by parents ,children and educators ,we have to face the problem. Education which doesn’t help us to make us financially free does  not solve the purpose .

I would also like put more focus on healthy living  and Financial health.

Entrepreneurship mindsets  should be incorporated in various ways from middle school onwards. Children are smart but a little guidance helps.

Journeysays– Your expectations from teachers ?

Dr Amrita : Teachers need to be upto date and incorporate the practical aspect of their subject with real examples, for better understanding .

JourneysaysCan you suggest any one or 2 practical ways to achieve your suggestions ?

Dr Amrita : Mindset shift is important. Education must be cherished . But with India’s impossible population number , making quality and affordable education accessible is a challenge. First step population control Second step better early life nutrition Third step mindset shift for both parents and children. For rest of my ideas you can read my blog post on this https://t.co/mAMNgA9m0y

I also interacted with Sakshi who is a teacher and student too. She teaches class 6th , 7th and 8th

According to her : Education should not become some kind of spoon feeding system . Like happening in schools these days . Practical knowledge need to be given, not just grades should be imparted . The class should be full of fun and interesting. There should be enough time for self studying hours for children. Parents should not providing smart phones to school students as it act as hindrance to their studies.

As a mother  Alawyerskitchen  put forward her viewpoint –

She saysOur education system is still based on age old belief that what is taught in books is the only way to excel in your exams and life which is quite the opposite to what life actually. Emphasis should be given on teaching practical theory . When we enter the society the first thought in our mind normally is what use was of those written exams where we just vomited out our by hearted words.

According to Jai who is a published writer, blogger and father :

I think training should be provided in chores that are neither included in extra-curricular nor academic activities. Small things for teenage children like carpentry, pottery, cooking for both males and females etc would impart life skills.

According to Varsha bagadia

Dedicating time for aptitude development and extracurricular activities would be very beneficial where mugging up won’t be needed. Approach needs to change from only marks to performance and understanding.

These are the initial thoughts we have come up. Still lots of brain storming on this topic is left.

Kindly do share and create awareness among people to share their view point. We are open to all. Share on what’s app , Twitter or Reblog the way you want to share. You are welcomed to express your thoughts through  the survey Link , as a guest post or interview. Do contact me through my contact page

Educational Reforms in India- A survey initiated under the #blogchatterprojects

Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.

Education is a fundamental right for all the citizens of worldย  according to the UN declaration .ย  Hence , in most of the states in India, basic education is provided free to all. But the question is whether the education being given to them achieving the purpose ? Is it having a power to give the citizens which the future world is looking for.

Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today.

Malcolm X

The purpose of education can not be defined in few words. It is more than a definition. It has toย  be specific and goal oriented.

Need for this project ?

Being a teacher , a parent there has always been a great debate on what and how the child should get the education at various levels.
Be on a social media platforms or in family or friends get together I have witnessed the parents so worried for the education of their kids. I remember the incident I witnessed whileย  travelling in a cab , that made me to get more deeper into this project –
