Forest Bath Therapy- A discovery of your innerself

Forest Bath Therapy

Nature has always been a great healer. Being with nature always boosts your mind and makes you feel energetic and relaxed. There are many naturopathies used by therapists  and doctors which proves the fact that importance of nature in our lifestyle  can not be denied.

Forest bath therapy

Forest bath therapy is also known as Forest Therapy or Forest Bathing . This has been taken from a Japanese term SHINRIN YOKU which means – taking in the forest atmosphere. This therapy has been originated in Japan in early 1980s. It is a form of nature therapy.

How is it different from other natural  therapies ?

Forest Bathing

It does not including trekking through a difficult path or doing a forceful excercising or doing a long hours meditation without your wish. It includes simply walking through the forest in a calm and relaxed way connecting all our senses with  the environmentfully.

It is not like having a spa in an open area  surrounded with lots of trees with some soothing music for your mind. Rather you have to make your senses active to hear the sounds in nature like moving wind , chirping of birds, noise of all those small insects and watching them siliently as silent spectator.

Science behind the scene

Many scientific studies have been conducted in the past decades which prove the positive and healing effects of nature. Research by Dr Yoshifumi Miyazaki of Chiba University has proved that stress level decrease significantly by just  walking 40 minutes in forest. There are some chemicals and oils which boosts our immune system . They also increase the number of disease fighting cells thus decreases the chances of chances of falling sick. The D- limonene found in some forests reduces the lung inflammation , helping in breathing problems like lungs.

You can experience the impact of nature in your life. Just seeing the trees or watching the small insects moving in a garden gives you a different kind of happiness which you can never get in four walls  of your room.

  2. Wow…didn’t know something like this existed. I mean of course, when you walk in woods or green cover, you feel calm and happy, so a forest bath therapy shoulnd’t come as a surprise. Let me check out the link you have provided and see if such thing takes place near Mumbai. 🙂

  3. Interesting. I do a lot of nature walk and hiking in forests. The focus of all this is to unwind and enjoy nature. I would love to do that alone but given the fact that we don’t have hiking trails it is not safe to go alone.

  4. This is a new concept although I and hubby try to connect with nature as we are in Sindhudurg – Nature Heaven which has some hidden deep forests, green paths, and secluded clean beaches.

I’ve read about “forest Bathing” few years back and that was not so vivid and informative like you described it here. Special thanks for providing the club0link. Very useful.

  6. This is interesting, more so because I have been doing this without realising that there is a term for it. I visit Ranthambore often, for the tiger safari’s and my visits always manage to refresh me. Thanks for sharing this and letting me know the right term for it.
